karijones: (Scrapworks)
Welcome to my studio. It's a bit random, this name, which is why I use it. My studio is full of bits and pieces --fabric, papers, beads, feathers, bits of writing, old dolls, broken jewellery, and my fragmented self--writer, seamstress, fabric art person (whatever that's called), card maker, and whatever else occurs to me. And so, my art is usually made from scraps, often without a pattern, usually a bit wonky or wobbly. It's an externalization of my inner chaos, or, well, that's not quite right. It's a manifestation of my desire to live outside the boundaries of precise disciplines. To try things rather than commit to them, to be colourful on a grey day, to explore and not care about the outcomes. Sometimes I care, other times I just play and see what happens.

I first came up with the name ScrapWorks Studio years ago when I was making art with bits of fabric and glue. That's what the image is --me in fabric and glue. Or at least a version of me. A nostalgic me thinking of a time when there were palm trees in my life. Like my mother, I love wearing the colours of the Caribbean, especially when it gets gloomy around here in the winter. Also, I made the image when my hair was dark, before the grey and white set in for real.

This space seems ideal for scrap works, especially in writing.

So here I have a dragon. It's not like other dragons, because it's only the size of a lion and it's mane is made of feathers.

Hi class,
welcome to English 150. This is the site we'll be using for blogging. It should be fun!
